The text alongside was published in the New Zealand Listener July 19-25 2014. It is an extract from an article written by Redmer Yska "Hanging Offences" which covers the vigorous and bitter debate over capital punishment in New Zealand during the mid 1950s. In this extract there are references to Fred Foster, the central figure in Kerin's forthcoming book. The poster image below advertises a production by the Basement Lovers Club Theatre (Auckland, New Zealand) about the crime committed by Albert Black who was, like Fred Foster, hanged in 1955. |
